Andrew L. Bergeron

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Andrew L. Bergeron, Major Field Artillery, United States Army HHC, 165th Aviation group (Combat) for extraordinary achievement, while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam from 26 January 1970 to 25 January 1970. Major Bergeron distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious achievement while serving as safety officer of the 165th Aviation Group (Combat) responsible for the diversified safety program involving more that 1600 personnel and millions of dollars worth of aircraft and equipment. To derive the greatest benefit form the program, he flew numerous hazardous and critical missions in support of combat operations to obtain reliable safety data during actual enemy engagements. To insure optimum air traffic control at all airfields under the supervision of the group, he flew countless missions under every conceivable hazard of inclement weather, darkness, and through enemy fire. He displayed a constant awareness of the complexities of airmobile warfare, and as a result of his aviation expertise and professionalism, he demonstrated superb airmanship on all types of missions. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty have contributed immeasurably to the combat success of his unit. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
