Robert E. Barr

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert E. Barr for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia, on 7 January 1972. On that date, while piloting his lightly armed reconnaissance aircraft over a heavily defended waterway in Southern Laos, Captain Barr discovered eleven supply-laden boats moving south. Despite intense anti-aircraft artillery fire and extremely poor weather, Captain Barr directed tactical fighters onto the target destroying ten boats and two and one-half tons of supplies, damaging one boat, and had a probable thirty-three hostile personnel killed by air. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Barr reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
