- John B. Barrett
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant John B. Barrett for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Flight Engineer near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam, on 22 June 1969. On that date, Sergeant Barrett and his crew came to the defense of a Vietnamese outpost which was under heavy attack by a large hostile force. Despite the heavy ground fire and the unpredictable aircraft movements, Sergeant Barrett was able to keep one gun operating at all times, thus providing continuous firepower in defense of the outpost while spotting areas of intense ground fire for the Pilot. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Barrett reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
