Robert H. Anderson

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Robert H. Anderson for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Pilot of a Fighter-Bomber Plane in Marine Fighter Squadron Four Hundred Twenty-Two during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Ryukyu Islands Area from 26 May to 23 July 1945. Completing his twentieth combat mission during this period, Captain Anderson contributed materially to the success of his squadron in the infliction of damage on hostile installations. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of enemy anti-aircraft fire were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
