Edwin R. Bailly

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class Edwin Raymond Bailly for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Mechanic and Gunner of a Patrol Bomber Plane during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Western Pacific Ocean Area from May 1 to July 16, 1944. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Bailly rendered invaluable assistance to his pilot in carrying out flights over active combat areas, thereby contributing materially to the success of his squadron. His skill and courageous devotion to duty in the face of grave hazards reflect the highest credit upon Bailly and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
