Sherman H. Anderson

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Sherman H. Anderson for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Warrant Officer Anderson distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as pilot of the command and control aircraft during a combat operation in the Soven Sistera Mountain area. While supporting American Special Forces advisors to Cambodian units engaged in battle with a large enemy force on Nui Ta Bac Mountain, Warrant Officer Anderson flew more than fifteen hours under constant enemy fire to permit the Special Forces advisors to control the Cambodian elements involved. Displaying dynamic airmanship and undaunted courage, he flew numerous low-level missions over the area, landed many times to carry in supplies and to evacuate the wounded, and volunteered repeatedly for any hazardous mission which arose. Braving intense fire on countless occasions throughout the battle, Warrant Officer Anderson was highly instrumental in the success of this crucial and highly dangerous mission. His heroic actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
