Antonio F Armagno

Captain Antonio F. Armagno is awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam: Captain Antonio F. Armagno distinguished himself during Operation Thor from 3 through 7 July 1968. Captain Armagno voluntarily flew over the DMZ and North Vietnam in a light observation aircraft to locate targets for attack by artillery. He continually exposed himself to enemy fire by flying twice daily for 5 days over known concentrations of enemy anti-aircraft weapons. His aircraft came under fire on every mission. The artillery fire that Captain Armagno adjusted resulted in 5 artillery pieces destroyed and 3 damaged, 3 automatic weapons sites destroyed and 2 damaged, 5 bunkers destroyed and 2 damaged, 6 huts destroyed, and 500 meters of trench destroyed. The courageous actions of Captain Armagno contributed directly to the successful reduction of enemy anti-aricraft and artillery concentrations in the Cap Muy Lay Sector. His courage, determination, and professional competence are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
