John A. Batastini

#1 The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain John A. Batastini for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Pilot over Southeast Asia on 7 August 1971. On that date, Captain Batastini scrambled to aid friendly ground troops who were in an extremely serious tactical situation; in that they were surrounded by hostile forces and the area had low clouds and very poor visibility which had hampered air support. Pressing the attack under adverse conditions, Captain Batastini delivered all his ordnance precisely on target allowing the friendly forces to be finally extracted by helicopter. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Batastini reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.******

Despite intense anti-aircraft fire, Captain Batastini made numerous ordnance delivery passes on three large anti-aircraft artillery sites destroying all three sites. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Batastini reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
