Robert A Bertollini

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Robert A. Bertollini for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the United States Army. Warrant Officer Bertollini distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 12 April 1969, while serving as an Aircraft Commander during an enemy attack on a ground unit in the Republic of Vietnam. When an infantry unit was running extremely low on ammunition, Warrant Officer Bertollini volunteered to fly the vital supplies to the embattled unit. Arriving on station, he found several other helicopters refusing to land due to the intense enemy fire. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he descended into the small pickup zone and delivered the ammunition. While on the ground, he ordered the crew to load the critically wounded aboard and immediately flew them to a secure landing zone where they received prompt medical attention. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
